What is Karate?

Karate is recognized as a Japanese martial art with roots in Okinawa.

From the 15th century to the 16th century, there was an influx in attacks by Japanese pirates named Wakou to Okinawan Villages, which led to the creation of the predecessor of Karate, “Te”.

As time passed, Te became known as Karate, wherein this art today, there are two disciplines practiced: Kata, the forms aspect of Karate, where various blocks and strikes are choreographed into a sequence is practiced; and Kumite, which is fighting aspect of Karate.
